Cathy de la Cruz

Cathy de la Cruz is a feminist filmmaker, animator, writer, critic, and DJ currently living south of Hollywood, California. She was born a Sagittarius in 1980 and grew rapidly toward her destiny of optimistically compassionate however critical filmmaking, writing, and music-curating. de la Cruz is both a thorough researcher and participant in mainstream and subcultural female culture. She most recently completed Two Four Zero Six, an experimental non-fiction film dealing with the interplay between memory and fantasy after asking her family to speak about the house she grew up in. Every week, de la Cruz co-hosts a feminist film review podcast, called Show Me Your Titles. Her current ambitions are to finish an animation about how the spaces people take up physically affect them psychologically, complete a feature length screenplay tentatively titled Drive, work on putting together a book of her short stories compiled from the last few years, continue to talk about film from a feminist perspective every week on Show Me Your Titles, and make sure women's voices and instrumentation are represented wherever music is played--de la Cruz regularly DJ's art openings, alternative venues and clubs and has a weekly radio show on her local college radio station. de la Cruz also hopes to one day edit a Riot Grrrl "Where Are They Now?" book in which she would pay respect to the young women who shaped a feminist revolution in the 90s by showing how many of those women, now in their late 20s, 30s, and beyond are now big parts of contemporary art and political movements.
