Since graduating from Barnard College in 2003, Jesse Mockrin has co-founded a non-profit arts organization in Honduras, personally assisted a wealthy Manhattanite, worked as an immigration paralegal for a legal-aid society, lived in a van along the Australian roadside and continued to pursue her studio practice.
As a first year MFA, Mockrin's current series of figurative paintings and photographs investigates contradictions within New York's corporate culture. Her work is especially attuned to tenuous relationships between power and vulnerability that inhabit the world of her subjects.
