Kate Wall continues her exploration of "place" by juxtaposing two of her most recent bodies of work, one rooted in the concept of nostalgia and the other dealing with the understanding of and sensitivity to present locales. Evolving from a point of loss and disappearance, the artist brings together distinct periods of time and a differentiation in the treatment of space. What sits at the base of her contextualization of these experiences is the inherent futility built into the artistic pursuit of dealing with time, memory, and location. She posits dualities of lightness and darkness, absence and presence, interiority and exteriority, in the work to evoke a sense of non-place.
In 2005, Kate moved to California from New York to pursue her MFA. She has a BFA in Glass from Rhode Island School of Design. Most recently her work has been shown at L.A.C.E. and the New Wight Gallery in Los Angeles and Kyung Hee University Museum of Fine Arts in Seoul, Korea.
